Teaser Launch Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Edinburgh, Scotland -- 25 October, 2022 -- Indie developer Aaron Gilbert has released Psychosis: Teaser, a demo of his upcoming first-person psychological horror game. Psychosis invokes the nostalgic spirit of horror games like Silent Hill with a uniquely idiosyncratic approach to gameplay and storytelling.

When a family goes missing and you receive a mysterious phone call, all hell breaks loose as you are plunged into an expansive world where demons hunt you down and logic is turned inside out. Battle with the shreds of your own humanity through an hour of mind-breaking gameplay packed with combat, puzzles and mystery.

Available now at a special Halloween discount of FREE, Psychosis: Teaser offers a terrifying taste of the full experience planned to launch later next year on PC.

Why another indie horror game?

"I've long wanted to make a horror game that secretly plays tricks on the player, gaslighting their decision-making and their perception of the game world. I think that’s an area that’s been badly underexplored within the genre.”

What classic games influenced you to make Psychosis?

"I grew up playing PlayStation games with all their wobbly goodness - the Spyro trilogy and Crash Team Racing were my absolute favorites. With Psychosis, I wanted to take that PS1 vibe and kick it up a notch with modern lighting and post-processing to get a truly unique horror experience, a hybrid of old and new, made possible with Unreal Engine. Outside of games, the beautiful, somber forests of my home state of Washington were also a constant influence.”

What kind of gameplay can we expect from Psychosis: Teaser?

"I largely looked towards one of my favorite underrated horror games, Condemned: Criminal Origins. The weighty, brutal feel of the melee combat in Condemned grabbed hold of me when I first played it years ago, so I decided to try mixing it with Silent Hill’s style of puzzles and key collecting and see what happened. I think it’s a classic combination."

Where can we play Psychosis: Teaser, and what does it cost?

Psychosis: Teaser is available now for download on Itch.io with a 'pay what you want' pricing model. Players who pay $5 or above will get a Steam key for the full game upon release, and those who pay $9 or more will also get a copy of the teaser’s unique soundtrack.

Aaron explains how he plans to spend revenue generated by Psychosis: Teaser:

“All the money raised at this point will go back into the game’s development, so I can make the best experience possible for players. I just want to expand on it and keep refining it.”
